WUE UPDATE

 JOSLYN AGREEMENT

Western United Electric is pleased to report that effective February 1, 2005 we have reached an agreement, and have been appointed a full-line authorized stocking distributor for Joslyn  products. Our sales representatives will be contacting you soon for your suggestions of products to stock. Joslyn is a full-line manufacturer of pole line hardware and protective equipment. In the near future, WUE will have available many of the Joslyn products from local stock.

E-COMMERCE

Our E-Commerce site continues to grow in popularity. There have been several improvements to the site in the last year. The most noticeable is the speed. If you are not familiar with our site, we encourage you to visit with your sales representative or visit WWW.WUE.COOP. Many options are available on the site, including your past history of purchasing, inventory information, new product information, and much more.

PRICE INCREASES

We continue to report on the instability with pricing due to the steel shortage. In the last year, we have seen increases from the majority of our suppliers ranging from 15% to 37%. It is a difficult time, and we can only hope that the situation improves this year. We will keep you advised.

Pirelli

5-35kV ELASPEED

Elaspeed splices utilize cold shrink technology - widely recognized as the leading edge "delivery system" for cable accessories. No special tools or torches are required. Cold shrinking the splice ensures concentric splice recovery, even in tight installation spaces. Elaspeed splices  recover to give consistent insulation wall thickness. The Elaspeed core, constructed from ethylene propylene rubber (EPR) insulation, is manufactured on a vertical extruder to ensure complete concentricity to the tightest tolerance possible. The Elaspeed splice is a "Complete' splice, containing the splice core, a shielding braid and a jacket.

Cold Shrink Technology

No special tools or torches are required. Cold shrinking the splice ensures concentric splice recovery. Even in tight installation spaces, Elaspeed splices recover to give consistent insulation wall thickness.

Watertight Installation

Major accessory users are concerned that ingress of water in damaged cable jackets and unsealed splices can lead to premature failures. The Elaspeed splice has successfully passed IEEE 404-1993, the industry standard for splices. The

Elaspeed splice also passes pressure tests at an external pressure of 45 psi. Internal mastic seals ensure that even cable jacket damage will not allow water to enter the splice area.

Small Profile

Elaspeed splices behave like EPR cable when it comes to bending in tight manhole situations. Splices can be bent to the same radius as the cable on which it is applied. This small profile consumes less racking space as well.

Range-taking Capability

The splice can easily accommodate different types of insulation (EPR to XLPE), different insulation thicknesses (175 mil to 220 mil, or 260 mil to 345 mil), as well as different conductor sizes and metals.

Howard Industries

By Kent Davenport

The SVR-1 single-phase step voltage regulators are tap-changing autotransformers designed to automatically regulate distribution line voltages in a range of plus or minus 10% in thirty-two steps of approximately 5/8% each. The following ratings are available:

  • Voltage: 2500 Volts (60 kv BIL) through 19920 Volts (150 kV BIL)

  • Current: 50 through 1665 Amps

  • KVA: 50 through 833

  • Frequency: 50 or 60 Hertz

Internal potential winding taps and/or an external ratio correction transformer are provided on all ratings so that each regulator may be applied within a range of system voltages.

A digital control system automatically operates the tap changer within desired limits. The control system is externally programmable to allow precise setting of control limits and provides sophisticated capabilities for special control requirements, communication, and data logging.

Overhead type voltage regulators are supplied with support brackets for pole mounting and have bolt-down provisions for pad-mounted applications. Substation type voltage regulators are provided with rectangular substation bases. Elevating platforms are available as an option.

SVR-1 voltage regulators are designed for reliable operation and ease of maintenance and are supplied with a full array of standard features for routine applications.
